Kitty Thomas is the queen of mind twisting demented stories that always seem to leave your mind reeling at the end of her books, and this book is no exception. Tabular Rasa starts out making you question what's going on seeing as how our heroine awakes in an theme park broken down pirate ship of all places. Oh and the heroine Elodie has no memory of how she ended up here with her husband Trevor, but even more worrisome than the amnesia is the world Elodie wakes up too..."Now, everything was back to the law of the jungle. And brute strenght was king."
In Elodie's new reality she tries to come to terms with all the changes around her as well as trying to live with a man she can't remember, and now a dark and mysterious man named Shannon enters and reality changes once again.
"You're going to play all my games, Elodie. And you're going to love every minute of it. I'm tired of you being a toy I can't play with. I'm ready to take you out of the box."
Shannon is the real deal a man who takes control of a room as soon as he enters it, and takes whatever or whoever he wants. And as soon as he sees Elodie he decides he wants her.
"It's not all nurture, Elodie. There are predators in this world, and I'm one of them. There's nothing I can do to change that."
"You know you're mine, right? You were mine the moment I laid eyes on you in the Castle."
Shannon takes Elodie into a new reality, and shows her things about the world and herself that she didn't know we're true.
"I think we both know what kind of girl you are, don't we?
Yes, I think we both did know."
"Maybe I should punish you more if this excites you so much"
Watching Elodie and Shannon's relationship grow as well as how Elodie faces her new circumstances kept me riveted throughout the entire book. There was so much passion between these two, but vulnerability on Elodies part where she tried to fight her attraction to Shannon at the beginning. As we find out more about Elodie throughout the book a lot of action plays out and of course Kitty keeps us guessing along the way with a few twists along the way. I loved how this book ended though I could not have guessed the direction it turned when the past catches up with the present. Shannon was so much more than I expected and protected what was his all the way till the end.

I haven't read a dark book this good in a long time. If your looking for a good book with dubious consent, a man who takes what what he wants, and knows how to wield a flogger, a paddle, as well as his hand on a bare bottom than this is the book for you. There's plenty of action and twists to keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last chapter.

I thought this book was brilliant!! One of the more bizarre reads I've enjoyed in a while, once I started, I could not put it down, and weeks later, I'm still thinking about it.
While there were not many times when I felt that I could relate to Elodie, the heroine (and it's not really necessary for me to relate to a protagonist in order for me to enjoy a book), I did very much come to appreciate her reactions to the wildly unique situations that she found herself in, and I absolutely adored her idiosyncrasies--such as her habit of hoarding feminine hygiene products! I think I first fell in love with her character when she raided the tampon vending machine in the abandoned amusement park ladies room. I mean … who among us wouldn't in an apocalypse situation?
I found Shannon’s character to be very intriguing as well. I particularly appreciated his relationship with his unnamed cat and the love triangle of sorts between the three of them.
But what really tipped the scales for me was Elodie’s character arc at the 94% point. That was really a bit of fist-pump genius, in my opinion, how the author just dropped that little knee-jerk character reaction /moment-of-truth on us out of nowhere.
But then… was it really out of nowhere given Elodie’s reactions and choices up to that point?
I loved the premise and creativity of this book, but most especially it’s outrageous, peculiar main and supporting characters and the whole concept of trying to get to know a character who doesn’t even know herself. In summary, this was some twisted brilliance, and I loved every moment of it!! D
I'm only giving it four stars because I found some of the plot points to be a little incredulous, but then Harry Potter and Twilight aren't exactly realistic, are they? As usual, this Kitty Thomas book is terrifically well written and makes me believe that a woman with amnesia who has just seen a man she believes to be her husband killed would willingly go with his killer. That's one plot that I had to get past. The fact that she WENT with him. That she STAYED with him, I understood.
I liked the interaction between Shannon and Elodie and I loved the cat. Kitty Thomas can write because she had me KNOWING that cat like it was my neighbor's.
If you like this genre of romance and you've read Kitty Thomas' other books, you will thoroughly enjoy this one.
Oh my goodness, this book was amazing! It was an emotional masterpiece. It was Dark and Intense and full of Suspense. It was like being on a rollercoaster that you just couldn't wait to stop. Elodie and Shannon were fantastic characters thrown together in unusual circumstances. It was an angsty and edgy read that kept you on the edge of your seat and you just had to continue to find out what happened. As Always with Kitty Thomas Books I could not put it down. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a mind f*** of a read. This story delivers on so many aspects fresh, unique, and intriguing not to mention Mind Blowing.
